Ethical sourcing of materials
We all know the powerful emotion behind a meaningful gift of jewellery, and often consideration of its source comes secondary to its aesthetic beauty or precious material content. However, consumers have considerable power to direct modern business practices towards more sustainable methods, ethical sourcing of materials, and reducing reliance on plastic and non renewable materials. Given enough momentum, this will become mainstream and benefit everyone.
At Zaphir we source our metals from the UK from audited suppliers who provide certificated recycled material. Our recycled silver, gold and platinum has been reclaimed from used metal products (think scrap jewellery, electronics etc). It is refined then melted down and produces a quality product every bit as strong, beautiful and pure as newly-mined material, without the substantial electricity and energy usage of extracting and smelting the raw mined product. This makes it a significantly more sustainable source of metal, and all our pieces that qualify by weight are hallmarked at the London Assay Office to demonstrate their purity.
Our beautiful gemstones are sourced globally from suppliers who endeavour to only source ethically, and we prioritise stones that can be mined with minimal negative environmental and societal impact. To our knowledge the stones we use in our jewellery are not involved in unsafe, unethical conditions for any worker or environment involved in the extraction, transportation, cutting, polishing, and overall process involved in bringing you a shining piece of geological history.
With Zaphir you have the confidence to purchase a beautiful, precious piece while knowing it has been crafted or sourced in a way that minimises environmental impact - we like to think of it as the metaphorical cherry on top - and who doesn’t like a garnish.
